Synopsis

In post-war Britain, William, an orphan boy yearning for a better life, struggles to leave his poor, forgotten village. He is trying to find out what happened to his parents before he is called up for national service at the age of 18 and thus losing forever the chance to rediscover his past.

Despite his best efforts, fate leaves him jobless until a kind and reclusive old man named Richard offers him work at his cottage. At first, the two are connected by a sense of responsibility, which later turns into a strong bond that surpasses time.
